Therapy that works
Evidence-based techniques tailored to help you overcome anxiety, depression, and trauma with measurable progress.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy
Identify the thoughts and deep self-beliefs that play a role in your anxiety, depression, and/or trauma symptoms--including how they affect the way you experience and conduct your daily life. From there, you'll begin reducing these symptoms and build on strategies and skills that actually work for you. You will keep getting better at determining how you wish to believe and feel about yourself, your life, and your future.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Processing)
Process traumatic memories safely, including complex trauma. Used as well for depression, anxiety, panic disorder, grief, and OCD. In contrast to primary talk therapies EMDR places emphasis on somatic experience in the healing process.
Family Systems
Identify and begin changing unhelpful family-of-origin role(s) such as scapegoat and peace-keeper. Address and change harmful family rules such as all members have to act like everything is always okay even when not true. (Note: Dr. Carlin uses aspects of this approach for individual therapy; he no longer works with families per se).
Existential Therapy
Help clients better appreciate how to live their lives with a sense of meaning and personal-responsibility. Guide clients in improving their relationships with others. Help clients balance this with times of peace and solitude. Address mortality issues and how this impacts meaningful living.

"Behavioral activation" is also often supported--a CBT skill to increase a client's activity/exercise levels. Dr. Carlin himself is a regular exerciser.

Personal Statement
Life work
It means a lot to me to help others and I think it is fair to say I'm doing the work I was meant to do. I believe my strong motivation to help others relates to my own life challenges and gaining sufficient resolution in their regard. Also, I have a strong interest in psychology and the human condition. I live my own life with a growth orientation and support clients to do the same. It seems to me this is the primary way to have a meaningful life.

Reviews
Historically, like a lot of therapists in light our ethics and professional guidelines, I have been reserved about getting reviews--so as to protect a client's anonymity. However, given recent, significant changes with on-line marketing, and Google's changed policies around leaving a review--that is, that now a person can do so anonymously--I am open to current and fomer clients leaving reviews. Importantly, this helps new potential clients make decisions about their therapy options. If a current, or former, client wishes to leave a Google my Business review, I recommend he or she does so in the following manner: First, create a new google account (Gmail) by inputting something like "Alex T" (not one's actual name). Next, choose a Gmail address that is not connected to, or suggestive of, one's real identity. Then, turn on two-step verification. Next, open Google Maps and find/click on "Christopher Carlin, Psy.D. of Psylin, Inc." Next, sign in and accept Google's policies. If prompted, sign in with one's new account credentials. Review and accept Google's terms of service. Finally, write and submit your review. To leave a review the link to my Google my Business website is: https://g.page/r/CY9TiDvu5xToEAE/review
